Stellantis continues its transition to electric power, and a new key piece of information has just been revealed: we now know the maximum power of the electric motors the group plans to use, particularly for its premium and luxury brands such as Alfa Romeo and Maserati. A fact that has long remained unclear, especially where vehicles based on the STLA Large platform are concerned.

Until now, Stellantis had communicated engine power ratings for its STLA Small, Smart and Medium platforms, but the Large platform, intended for high-performance, top-of-the-range models, retained a measure of mystery. Only the Dodge Charger Daytona and the Jeep Wagoneer S had given a foretaste, with two engines rated at 250 kW each, or around 600 hp combined. This was still below the level expected of vehicles bearing the Quadrifoglio badge from Alfa Romeo or the Folgore badge from Maserati.

Jean-Philippe Imparato had certainly mentioned Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio 100 % electric cars developing up to 1000 hpbut without ever detailing the technical configuration. For Maserati, the GranTurismo Folgore remains an exception, with its three 300 kW motors, but these are supplied by Marelli, and are therefore not representative of Stellantis' in-house offering.

The news comes directly from official content, in which a Stellantis technical expert finally lifts the veil on the group's electric motor family. It will range from 70 kW to 350 kW per engine, i.e. from 95 hp to around 475 hp.

This opens up some very interesting prospects: with two 350 kW motors, a future top-of-the-range model, be it a Maserati or an Alfa Romeo, could theoretically reach 950 hp, whether the battery is capable of delivering sufficient continuous power.

It now remains to be seen how these engines will actually be used. At Alfa Romeo, the The electric Quadrifoglio no longer seems to be a priorityand Maserati, the 100 % electric strategy fails to convincesales of Folgore models have so far been very low.

But this announcement nevertheless gives a clear idea of the technological potential that Stellantis is ready to deploy. As a reminder, these "high-performance" electric motors are already produced at the Kokomo plant in the USA, and will be produced in 2026 at the Szentgotthard plant in Hungary for Europe.
