According to the latest information, Stellantis may delay production of models using the STLA Small platforminitially designed to accommodate several compact vehicles. This platform, key to the future of many of the group's brands, was to see the arrival of.., according to our informationPeugeot 2008, Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa in 2026, followed by the Fiat 500 and DS3 in 2027, then the Opel Mokka and Citroën C4 in 2028. However, these forecasts are now uncertain.
The first alert came from the Fiat 500whose new STLA Small-based version may not see the light of day in 2027 as planned. In fact, Stellantis recently allocated 100 million euros to improve the current electric Fiat 500and confirmed the new 500 hybrid on STLA City platformmodel, scheduled for 2025, two years before the initial release of the STLA Small model. This decision is the result of weak sales of the 100 % electric version, forcing the Group to adapt its strategy.
New signal: the Tribuna de Automocióna Spanish newspaper, reports that the future Peugeot 2008, planned as the first model on the STLA Small platformwill be produced at the Vigo plant in 2029, instead of 2027. This two-year postponement raises questions about the Group's overall strategy, in particular for the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, also due in Spain in 2026.
This reorganization could suggest that Stellantis aims to maximize the lifespan of current hybrid versions, which, although older, are still profitable. It's also possible that the Group wants to delay investment in future models on this platform, bearing in mind that smaller vehicles, such as those based on STLA Small, often generate lower margins. It is also interesting to note thathe current Peugeot 2008, based on the CMP platform, shares its segment with recent models such as the Fiat 600 and Alfa Romeo Junior.which suggests a longer life for this platform.
The market is evolving rapidly, and Stellantis may choose to take time to adjust its roadmap. The question now is whether other models will also suffer delays, and how this will affect Stellantis' position in the compact vehicle market.
I think we should list what's good about Stellantis, it would go faster haha
Ahhhh, we're back in the Marchionne period, but with less of the passion that kept us waiting.
They say Tavares makes all the decisions, but clearly he's not the type to postpone.
The platforms are fine, that's not the problem. The problem with internal combustion is the engines, and with electrics it's the batteries/chargers. Today, CATL is presenting a small battery capable of covering around 400kms, i.e. the equivalent of what equips the 600e/Mokka/2008/DS3/etc/etc. But able to charge in 4C, i.e. accept 200kW and do the 10-80% in less than 20 minutes. For the rest, 156 and 210 hp engines are sufficient. And when I see the price of the Abarth 600e, don't tell me that it's impossible to integrate, given the monstrous margins expected (they're not even capable of developing brand-specific door panels and seats)!
This is like the bad days of the Fiat Group again, delayed new models. Fiat are in crisis now because of a lack of consistent new models over the decades.
