The situation of Maserati continues to cause concern. Quattroporte and Levante: more news

Already postponed and then announced for 2028 and 2027 respectively, the new generations of the Quattroporte (codename M9S) and Levante (M6U) were supposed to mark Maserati's entry into a new era. But according to the unions, the situation is still unclear. There's reportedly no news of the new SUV that's supposed to succeed the Levante, and the Quattroporte sedan doesn't seem to be any further along. While both models have already been postponed, their future now seems conditional on several key decisions that Stellantis has yet to make.

Farewell to the 100 % electric?

Initially, Maserati was to become 100 % electric by the end of the decade, with Folgore models across all ranges. But the postponement of the electrification of the MC20 and poor sales of the Grecale, Granturismo and Grancabrio Folgore models suggest a strategic U-turn.

Today, the most likely option would be electrified, but not exclusively electric, models. In other words, hybrid combustion engines, notably based on the Nettuno V6, could save the day... provided that Stellantis agrees to produce these versions.

Platforms, but no validation

Technically, things seemed clear: the Levante M6U was to be based on the STLA Large LP3 platform, shared with the future Giulia and Stelvio, while the Quattroporte M9S was also to use the STLA Large. Yet, despite these engineering choices already outlined, no official validation or industrial launch has been announced.

And therein lies the rub: to bring these models to life, Stellantis needs to allocate assembly lines. To date, no Italian factory seems to have been designated: not Mirafiori, not Cassino, not even Modena. The Modena plant, the historic stronghold of the Trident brand, cannot produce more than 5,000 units a year.

An uncertain future, despite some recent successes

The radical MCXtrema, limited to 62 units, and the return to competition with the Maserati GT2 have helped the brand to survive. But this is not enough to mask the absence of a solid industrial vision for the core range.

The "high-end plan" announced by Stellantis at the end of 2024 remains, for the time being, a slogan without content. And the announcement of discussions with McKinsey shows that the medium-term strategy has yet to be defined. The CEO of Maserati recently declared " we'll make all our long-standing customers happy ". Now, more than announcements, we need action.

  1. Logically, Maserati should have planned Nettuno V6 hybrid engines, which seems logical to me, and I don't need an American firm to tell me that.

    • I don't know what substances they're on in the Scrooge gang, or whether they're simply the biggest incompetents in automotive history, but there's no logical explanation for their decisions.

      We can already move on to the next stage of questioning: if Maserati could be "saved" from this neglect by Ferrari, what about Alfa Romeo? A Chinese group?
