New Lancia Delta: this is what it could look like

After having reintroduces the Ypsilon in 2024 and scheduled forntroduction of a Ypsilon HF in 2025followed by a Gamma in 2026, Lancia seems determined to reinvigorate its image with a series of iconic models. These include, the Lancia Delta, an iconic compact sedanwill soon be making its comeback.

This model, which will rival such benchmarks as the Opel Astra, Peugeot 308, BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf, will be produced on the platform STLA Mediuma versatile base allowing the integration of hybrid or fully electric powertrains. The project doesn't stop there: a Delta HF version with all-wheel drive is scheduled for release in 2028This evolution is reminiscent of the direction taken by models such as the Peugeot e3008, also based on the STLA Medium platform, which will soon offer all-wheel drive and 320 hp.

Lancia drew its inspiration from the Pu+Ra HPE concept to imagine the future of its models. This same concept gave rise to the Ypsilon, based on the Peugeot 208. The design of tomorrow's Lancia Delta could follow this guidelinewhile adding its own distinctive touch.

A young designer, Mathys Bourbigothas come up with a particularly interesting interpretation of the future Lancia Delta. A graduate of the Strate design school (leven the designer of the 33 Stradale), Mathys already has a good track record, having interned as an "exterior designer" at Peugeot and DS between March and December 2022, before joining Changan Automobile in Turin. This Chinese-style center, whose reputation was further enhanced by a Red Dot International Design Award in 2023.

His concept of the Lancia Delta the key elements of the brand's new visual signature: a distinctive front end, a dynamic, muted silhouette and wheels reminiscent of those on the Ypsilon HF. These elements could be perfectly integrated into the future Delta model, capturing the imagination of motorists who grew up with the Lancia Delta, a name that has marked the history of sports cars.

This isn't the only time Mathys has come up with a concept inspired by Lancia's heritage: he also created the Lancia Pu+Ra+Te HELIKSa tribute concept to the Fulvia Zagato, illustrating its ability to combine modernity and automotive heritage.

Mathys is currently looking for his next professional challenge as a Junior Exterior Designer starting in Q1 2025. His work on the Lancia Delta and the HELIKS concept is testament to his talent and commitment to the world of automotive design.

  1. Waiting until 2028 for a compact 4-wheel-drive electric car with up to 320hp... No doubt about it, this is PSA.

The competition will easily be at 420/450 hp, or even more...

    • Just look at the weight of the competition's models. From this point of view, the choice of the Small platform is preferable to the Medium, if battery chemistry and architecture evolve significantly. The Junior's roadholding is very good, so there's no need to pile on the horsepower if weight degrades performance.

  2. An employee or intern of a Chinese design center in Turin... nice! Do the Chinese now have better design schools, as well as better engineers, than Europe? It's an open question. Let's hope that Lancia's choices are the right ones. As for Alfa Romeo.

  3. The HELIKS concept doesn't look like much to me, but I like the Delta, which is compact, streamlined and very sober. I hope they'll have the intelligence to respect the light signature by shifting the license plate. This would be perfectly feasible on the little Ypsilon, but at this stage it doesn't make sense.

  4. On the other hand...it's highly likely that, like DS or Chrysler, Lancia will be definitively discontinued. Unfortunately, the brand isn't going to survive with a Ypsilon that no one is interested in and a Gamma (why this name when it's the least successful of the "big" Lancias) that's very "niche".

    • In 2028 the old man who was still selling his epsilon quite well in Italy (45,000/year)
Will be dead and buried after the resounding failure of this replastered 208!
In France, for example, 20 have been registered since the launch, while the other 120 have been sold to dealers for demonstration purposes or for the Press Park!
      So forget about a hypothetical future Delta or Gamma;
And a word of advice to all those crying over Lancia and Alfa, why don't you buy one?

  5. All these prototypes are very pretty, because what they have in common is that they have 3 doors and body-colored wheel arches, 2 points that marketing would automatically transform into 5 doors and black arches.
Why a 5-door when it's only useful for 20 years in a lifetime, and the rest of the time 3-doors are more practical because they offer better blind spot visibility, and more space for bulky loads because the passenger seat can recline forward? The 2 extra doors increase the bill by 5%, and so does the margin, and since margin is the holy grail...
