Lancia Gamma: what the new DS No. 8 tells us about it

The Lancia Gamma only scheduled for 2026 and, even though we've already some information about itThe new DS N°8 could provide further information on the future Italian C-SUV. In fact, it could well be inspired in some respects by the DS N°8, which shares the same platform, the same factory and similar powertrains.

Models shared with the Lancia Gamma

Lancia has been in the midst of a renaissance since the birth of Stellantis. This comeback began with the Ypsilon. The next model, the Lancia Gamma, a 4.60-meter C-SUV, will be one of the brand's flagships. Like the DS N°8, Lancia Gamma will be manufactured in Italy, at the Melfi plant, a historic Stellantis site. Already home to models such as the Jeep Compass and Fiat 500X, this site will see the birth of this new era of Made in Italy vehicles for the DS (D74 and D85), Jeep (J4U), Opel (OV85) and Lancia (L74) brands.

The Lancia Gamma, code name L74, and the DS N°8, code name D85, are both based on on the same STLA Medium platform400V architecture, used by Stellantis for a host of new models such as the Peugeot 3008. While the Lancia Gamma is 4.60 meters long, the DS N°8 is positioned one segment higher, at 4.82 meters. Lancia Gamma to take on SUV silhouette while DS N°8 combines the codes of the tall sedan and the SUV coupé (like the future Alfa Romeo Giulia).

The fact that both vehicles are built on the same platform and in the same plant suggests that certain features will be common to allThis is particularly true of powertrains. We can therefore expect powerful electric motors and top-of-the-range finish on the future Lancia Gamma, like the DS N°8.

Electric motors on the program

DS N°8 stands out for its range of 100% electric motors, with versions ranging from 230 hp to 350 hp, and a range of up to 750 km. This exceptional performance is made possible by the use of a high-capacity 97.2 kWh battery andgood aerodynamics, with a Cx of 0.24. It's reasonable to assume that the Lancia Gamma, although aimed at a slightly different segment, could benefit from a similar electric powertrain offering, probably with a range closer to the Peugeot e3008, i.e. 700 km.

The electric motor obviously comes from emotorsM3 + M4, on the front and rear axles, for a combined output of 350 hp, with all-wheel drive. The 350 hp version boasts a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.4 sec. ideal for a Lancia Gamma HF in 2027.

It is also Lancia may offer a rechargeable hybrid version (PHEV) version of the Gamma, as is the case for other Stellantis models, such as the Peugeot 3008. For the DS N°8, there's no word yet, but it's rumored that it will benefit from the latest technology. the 195 hp 1.6 PHEV plug-in hybrid.

Design and habitability: French elegance made in Italy

The interior of the DS N°8 is a veritable masterpiece, combining luxury and technology: X-shaped steering wheel, large touch screen, quality materials and an overall ambience that exudes French elegance. According to initial feedback from journalists who have seen the DS N°8, the finishes are excellent.

For its part, Lancia's ambition is to create a top-of-the-range car while remaining true to its Italian roots. We look forward to an equally refined interiorwith premium materials and an impeccable finish.

A promising Made in Italy model

Although the Lancia Gamma and DS N°8 are two very different vehicles, they are built on the same platform and in the same factory, with similar engines and finishes, suggests a promising future for the Lancia Gamma. This C-SUV, scheduled for 2026, could become one of the Italian brand's most prominent models, rivaling the top-of-the-range European models. But be careful not to get too greedy.he top-of-the-range version of the DS N°8 is announced at less than €65,000...

      • Another predicted flop, the electric car is a failure and the manufacturers, under pressure and obstinacy from politicians, continue to produce them. It won't be long before all carmakers are destroyed and disappear, leaving only the Chinese.

  2. Let's hope they take advantage of this delay to develop another part for the selector, and that they don't copy the one used on the Citroën C3 as on this "DS Numéro huit" (lol). It's also worth thinking about several recovery modes, from freewheel to "one pedal", both forwards and backwards (which is what Kia offers). Let's also hope that they don't reinstall the same infotainment software, but rather the one developed in theory since 2022 in partnership with AWS. Finally, I hope that the DS design team has nothing to do with Lancia's, because the French brand's latest model is as baroque as ever, and this recipe has produced nothing but flops to date.
