This weekend, Italpassion will take an active part in the ADAC E-Competition, an endurance event reserved for production electric cars. February 15 and 16, 2025 on the Hockenheim in Germany. But this time, it's not just media coverage, I'll be one of six pilots who will take the wheel of Lancia Ypsilon electric committed by Lancia France. An interesting challenge where endurance, efficiency and recharging strategy will play a key role.
Both Lancia Ypsilon electric will take part in the A category, competing against other electric production cars such as the Volkswagen e-Golf and the Hyundai Ioniq. But it also brings together models such as the Tesla Model 3the Renault 5as well as Kia EV3, EV6, Lucid Airand others. In all, more than 33 cars will start in various categories.
We will be on the Hockenheim circuitin its 4574-metre GP configuration. A legendary circuit where energy management will be crucial. With a recharge limit of 19 kWEvery stop is essential, and battery management is just as important as speed.
Event program
The event kicks off on Saturday morning, with arrival at the circuit between 8 and 9.30 am. After the official briefing from 9.45 a.m. to 10.45 a.m., there will be technical verifications between 11.45 a.m. and 12.45 p.m., followed by the recognition between 1:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. At 2 pm, the tests will begin to allow us to adjust our strategies before the start of the grid at 3:30 pm. At 4pm, the 24-hour race begins.
On Sunday, the event closes with 16 hAfter a 24-hour endurance test, each team will have to demonstrate strategy, cooperation and optimal resource management.
Endurance and energy management
The aim of the competition is not to aim for pure speed, but to striking the right balance between performance and efficiency. With cars limited to a load of 19 kWEach team will have to optimize its charging stops and choose its strategic moments.
Each of the Lancia Ypsilon will be managed by a team of 6 drivers. We'll be taking turns during the 24-hour race, each bringing his or her own experience to maximize the car's performance.
