Future Fiat 500 2030 and Panda 2030: a new platform!

We have new information about future Fiat ! At present, the electric Fiat 500 is produced on the STLA City platform, while the Fiat Panda is based on the former Fiat Mini platform. However, major changes are on the horizon for both models, including for their new generations planned for 2030.

As a reminder, we had already revealed that the Fiat 500, currently produced at Mirafiori, will undergo an evolution planned for 2026, with the integration of a new battery supplied by CATL. In fact, the brand is planning a long-awaited major update, offering improved autonomy and a lower price.

Then, in 2030, new generations of Fiat 500 and Panda will be launched. Although it was initially thought that these two models might adopt the STLA Small platform, which is optimized for vehicles in the A to C segment (such as the Peugeot 208 or Opel Corsa), this does not appear to be the case. In our interview with Guillaume Clerc, Head of Product Fiat and Abarth, the latter confirmed that the Fiat 500 and Panda of 2030 would not be produced on the STLA Small platform.

This raises the question: what platform will be used for these new models? In our opinion, it's likely that the STLA City platform, currently in use for the electric 500, will be a preferred option for the new generation. This seems logical, as the STLA City could continue to play a central role in the production of compact models.

And, contrary to initial expectations, the STLA Small platform will be reserved for vehicles in the B and C segments. Stellantis seems to have added many more platforms than expected to its STLA range, which now includes STLA City, STLA Smart, STLA Small, STLA Medium, STLA Large and STLA Frame.

With these evolving platforms, it makes sense to believe that a new family of Stellantis products could emerge in 2030, including A-segment vehicles. This could even mark the return of models like the Citroën C1.

For these new models, we can imagine the integration of new LFP batteries, from the Spanish plant of the Stellantis/CATL joint venture, and M1 or M2 electric motors developed by Emotors. But 2030 is still a long way off; the market has already evolved considerably between 2020 and 2025, and who knows what the next 5 years will bring?

  1. 2030 is still a long way off. Even if in the auto industry you have to look far ahead and 5 years is almost normal, I'm afraid Fiât won't be around in 5 years. fCA and then stellantis seem to be doing everything they can to sink this brand. Besides, Merchione himself didn't say that Fiât's future lay in the 500...

  2. Smart choice! For once in this group!
The STLA City makes it possible to produce much smaller vehicles than the SMALL (ex-CMP), and what's more, 3-door models, something we've never seen on the CMP. Apparently, this was not part of the design brief. A 500 on the SMALL and only in 5-door would have been yet another 208/Corsa/Ypsilon etc. declination...

Now let's wait and see what the big update to the current 500 will be in a year's time. With latest-generation batteries and why not new electric motors? And why not make this 500, which seems impossible to make profitable even with its crazy prices, available as a 108 or Adam?
