While the Fiat Grande Panda began marketing in Europe at the start of 2025, it's in Brazil, the brand's biggest market worldwide (more than 520,000 units sold by 2024), that this new model is expected. A year ago, Fiat CEO Olivier François announced that the new range would be global, meaning that the same vehicles (or almost) would be offered in all the brand's markets.
Fiat already offers city cars such as the Pulse, Mobi and Argo models in Brazil. As we revealed at the end of 2024, the Grande Panda will join this range, but not just yet: its launch is officially scheduled for 2026. It would replace two models at once, the Mobi (launched in 2016) and the Argo (launched in 2017), in order to refocus the offering.
In Europe, the city car retains the Grande Panda name, Brazil may well opt for a name change. According to information gathered by Brazilian journalists from Quatro Rodas, who travelled to Italy to try it out, the local version could be christened "Fiat Uno". A way of following in the footsteps of historic models well known in Latin America.
Beyond the name, the design will differ somewhat from the European version. The expensive front LED panel, one of the striking aesthetic features of the European model, could be replaced in favor of more economical solutions. As for the interior, it should be revised to suit Brazilian tastes, particularly in terms of choice of colors and materials.
During their tests in Italy, thehe Brazilian journalists particularly appreciated the 1.2L PureTech Hybrid 100 hp engine. for its robustness and comfort. Nevertheless, the Grande Panda destined for Brazil should receive a 125 hp 1.0L GSE Hybrid block, as well as the 1.0L FireFly and 1.3L GSE Turbo engines, widely present in the Brazilian Fiat range. (Read : Fiat Grande Panda: this country will get the Fiat FireFly engine instead of the Puretech)
As for the 100 % electric version, it is not planned for the launch, although its arrival could be envisaged in the longer term. As a reminder, the electric blocks for the European Grande Panda are currently only produced in France, which makes it difficult to make them available internationally from the start of sales.
With half a million vehicles sold every year in Brazil, Fiat is betting big on this key market. The Grande Panda (or Uno) is expected to seduce with its versatility, revised design and engine adapted to local preferences. Local journalists believe that this elevated city car could easily replace the Mobi and Argo, while renewing the brand's image in Brazil.
"Brazilian journalists particularly appreciated the 100hp 1.2L PureTech Hybrid engine for its robustness" .... No kidding, please! ^-^
If not, the Brazilians are in luck, it's the 125hp that we need ... at least to make it more versatile, and especially more torque.
Finally, the Grande Panda with puncture-proof engines.
It reminds me of the Uno "CS" in the 80s, available only in Italy. They were imported Brazilian Unos. The front trunk was different.
I hope that Stellantis will offer a Grande Panda CS imported from Brazil in Europe, to do away with the Puretech.
Is the 1.2 puretech engine "widely appreciated for its robustness" a joke?
The words of the Brazilian media
For your information, the new puretech is equipped with a timing chain, not a belt bathed in oil! It's Stellantis's big mistake to have kept the name puretech.... from the bloody strategists at PSA management in France!!!! The Italians are much smarter!
la grande panda 🐼 yes
but not with the puretech engine
El Puretech 1.2 de tercera generación que se produce desde el año 2023, tiene CADENA de distribución (NO correa húmeda).
I agree with Gillos!
A strategist who has thought about it might be like this: "so the technical office told me that the Pureteck is reliable now with 1 chain, but "me I" am going to save on marketing so I propose NOT CHANGING the name (I don't care about the clientele anyway...)".
