The plant Fiat of Mirafiori, Turin, has often been in the spotlight throughout 2024, mainly due to its difficulties in resuming stable production for the electric Fiat 500. This time, however, the planned end of production in April 2025 will not be synonymous with a crisis, but rather with a positive turning point for the brand and for the Italian automotive industry.
According to the media Torino Cronaca, Stellantis will begin work in April to install the new production line for the Fiat 500 hybrid. The purpose of this temporary stoppage is to reorganize the production lines and install the specific equipment needed to manufacture this model. The month of April will therefore be devoted to reorganizing the production lines, with The first prototypes of the 500 hybrid are expected in May 2025.
This new version of the Fiat 500, equipped with a hybrid engine, is seen as a real hope for relaunching production at the Mirafiori plant, but also for strengthening the brand's competitiveness in a segment where demand for hybrid vehicles is still high. With an eventual production target of 100,000 units per year, the Fiat 500 hybrid could be a real relief for the Turin plant, which is struggling to get back to a high production rate with the electric 500.
The hybrid model of the Fiat 500, which will go into production in November 2025, should be offered at a price below €20,000making it a more accessible choice for a wide range of customers. This affordable price, coupled with a hybrid engine, could enable Fiat to relaunch its 500, a model that has long been synonymous with success for the brand, with sales of over 180,000 units a year in the past.
