Fiat 500 hybrid: even more ambitious sales targets!

Advertising

Stellantis has big ambitions for the Fiat 500 hybrid. About six months ago, when the CEO of FiatWhen Fiat CEO Olivier François announced production of 100,000 hybrid units per year, the target already seemed ambitious. But today, with Fiat's ambitions gaining momentum, this target has been re-evaluated and is now even higher: 130,000 copies per year.

Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Stellantis Europe, revealed this new production forecast for the historic Mirafiori plant in Turin. In his words, The production ramp-up is scheduled to start in November, as planned.

This announcement comes against the backdrop of a major transformation at the Mirafiori plant, a nerve center for both Fiat and Stellantis, which seeks to ensure the sustainability of local employment. Imparato also stressed the importance of this project for the region, underlining: "I don't want workers to spend their lives on short-time working", a clear message aimed at securing the future of the plant's employees while modernizing production.

The Fiat 500 hybrid is part of this drive to revitalize production at the plant. Although the old version of the Fiat 500, produced in Poland, achieved an annual output of around 180,000 units, the new model is still in production, the projection of 130,000 hybrid vehicles per year demonstrates Stellantis' ambitions for this model.

Eventually, the brand could also see production of the electric Fiat 500 expand, with, we believe, sales projections reaching 50,000 units once the car will benefit from its new battery. This development should lower the price of the electric model and make it even more attractive to consumers. Fiat could then return to the 180,000 units of the old Fiat 500, then produced in Poland.

Beyond production, these announcements also have symbolic significance. They illustrate Stellantis' efforts to ensure the competitiveness of its production sites in the face of international competition. Imparato stressed the importance of maintaining a robust European automotive industry, particularly at a time when commercial issues such as tariffs and emissions rules are becoming increasingly complex.

  1. Fiat and ambitions. Like the Stilo that was supposed to sell 400.000/year. They are lucky if they can reach 50.000/year with the hybrid+electric combined - but they require a sub-22.000 € starting price for that. I'm afraid it will remain an overly expensive product with MSRP 25.000 € and cheaper variants will only be available on clearance sales. But Fiat dealers are used to that already.

    • For the life of me, I can't understand why Fiat insists on tiny cars that aren't family friendly. They should build a car a little longer and wider than the X. In America these 500s have the look of a toy. They are good cars, but too expensive and not practical. If Hyundai and Kia can do it, then Fiat can and should.

  2. Fiat are visionaries. They wanted to go all out for electrics at the expense of internal combustion, and right away! In short, they put the cart before the horse! MDR

  4. I had already suggested it and asked for it more than a year ago! If Fiat presented us with a new 500 configuration with a sporty hybrid engine, I'd go to the dealership right away to order it as a cabrio because it's so cool!
Merci Thank you merci a vous et à Tous

  5. 100% agree with Dav & Patrico.
I don't understand why they don't offer a more powerful hybrid with optional auto gearbox.
I've got an 85hp thermal cabrio (and before that I had the 105hp cabrio), so going for the 70hp hybrid is out of the question.
