As trade tensions between the US and Europe escalate under the impetus of Donald Trump's customs policy, some Italian car brands are particularly exposed. This is the case for Ferrari and Lamborghini, whose number one market remains the United States. In this unstable context, it's worth taking stock of their sales performance for the first quarter of 2025.
Ferrari keeps the lead despite a slight setback
In 2024, Ferrari was still the preferred luxury brand in the United States in terms of volume. It also finished the year ahead of Lamborghini in global registrations. But the competition is tightening: Lamborghini, with a smaller range, manages to close the gap every quarter. The first quarter of 2025 will therefore be closely scrutinized.
Ferrari | Q1 2024 | Q1 2025 |
---|---|---|
United States | 785 | 755 |
Germany | 556 | 459 |
Japan | 352 | 335 |
United Kingdom | 268 | 258 |
Italy | 225 | 229 |
France | 56 | 150 |
2242 | 2186 |
Compared with first-quarter 2024 (2,242 units), Ferrari posted a decline of -2 %. The brand is declining in virtually all markets except Italy, where it is up slightly, and France. Nothing alarming, but the trend is clearly downward.
Lamborghini stalls, but that's normal
From Sant'Agata Bolognese, Lamborghini is experiencing a more difficult quarter. Here are its figures for the same period:
Lamborghini | Q1 2024 | Q1 2025 |
---|---|---|
United States | 831 | 738 |
Germany | 346 | 370 |
United Kingdom | 252 | 220 |
Japan | 187 | 210 |
Italy | 131 | 155 |
France | 18 | 27 |
2278 | 1720 |
Compared with 2,278 units sold in the first quarter of 2024, the decline is marked: -24 %. It's mainly the USA that's dragging the figures down. However, according to our figures, Lamborghini is making progress in several markets, notably Germany, Japan and Italy.
As we mentioned in a previous article, this slowdown is largely due to a transition in range. The Revuelto, the new flagship model, is a real success, with a full order book up to the end of 2026. But the launch of the Temerario, unveiled in August 2024, disrupts the schedule. First deliveries of this Huracan replacement won't begin until the second half of 2025. In the meantime, production is adjusting, and Lamborghini seems to be selling off the last examples of its old model. Huracan.
This setback is probably only temporary. Once the first Temerario models have been delivered, Lamborghini could be back on track in the second half of the year.
Verdict: Ferrari in the lead in Q1 2025
While neither Ferrari nor Lamborghini can boast of growth in the first quarter of 2025, Ferrari wins the registration battle. With 2186 units to Lamborghini's 1720, the Prancing Horse brand retains its leadership.
