New recall campaign affects many vehicles Ferrari built between 2008 and 2018. The reason? Faulty Takata airbags, which could cause serious injury or death if deployed in an accident. In view of the seriousness of the risk, France's Ministry of Transport is launching a major awareness campaign to encourage affected car owners to have these airbags replaced without delay. If this recall campaign is declared in France, it should also apply to the same vehicles sold in other countries.
Potentially dangerous airbags
Ferrari, like many other manufacturers, finds itself having to deal with the consequences of this vast Takata airbag affair. The problem stems from the degradation of certain chemical components in the airbag triggering system. The result is an explosion which projects metal fragments into the passenger compartment, causing serious injury or even death to the driver or front passenger. The situation is particularly critical in regions with high levels of heat and humidity.

If you own one of these models, or any other Ferrari vehicle built between 2009 and 2018, it's vital to check whether you're affected by this recall campaign.
What should you do if your vehicle is affected?
- Check your mail or contact Ferrari You should have received an official letter informing you of the recall. If not, please contact the manufacturer or a Ferrari dealer directly to find out whether your vehicle is affected.
- Make an appointment with an authorized repairer If confirmed, take immediate action. The repair involves replacing the defective airbag. This procedure is free of charge and usually takes no more than half a day.
- Don't delay in making the change The risk remains until the airbag has been replaced. Even if your vehicle is not used very often, or is located in an area less exposed to humidity, chemical degradation can increase over time.
A free preventive measure
Airbag replacement is fully covered by the manufacturer: you won't have to pay anything for the procedure. This quick and easy procedure can literally save lives.
In the event of an accident, a defective airbag can become a projectile, hurling pieces of metal into the passenger compartment. To avoid this catastrophic scenario, it's best to check your vehicle now and, if necessary, schedule a repair visit as soon as possible.
