Ferrari electric: "Can we make mistakes? Of course," says the brand's CEO

CEO Ferrari. Benedetto Vigna.

Ferrari is about to take a leap into the future of the automobile with the launch of its very first all-electric model, scheduled for October 2025. This is a major step forward for the brand, emblematic for its combustion engines, synonymous with performance and adrenalin. However, the road to electric power is not without its difficulties. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, recently expressed his doubts and ambitions in all transparencyand the challenges this transition could bring.

During his speech at Prysmian's Capital Markets Day in New York on March 26, 2025, CEO Vigna took the floor to clarify Ferrari's position on this new adventure. He emphasized the uniqueness of Ferrari's electric model: "We're working on a car that will be unveiled in the fourth quarter of this year. It will be unique, because we won't simply put four wheels on it with a battery and a motor, as others do for mass-market cost reasons. We're creating something exciting, which will make the driving experience unique."

However, despite this clear vision, concerns remain. Ferrari, aware of the challenges ahead, has openly discussed potential risks in previous communications. The market for luxury electric vehicles is still young and complex, just as Maserati struggled to establish itself with its Folgore models. Moreover, Ferrari remains cautious about the acceptance of its new models by the brand's traditional customers.

In a recent statement, Vigna even addressed the possibility of failures, saying: "Can we make mistakes? Of course we can. But the problem is not making mistakes, but not learning from our mistakes." A pragmatic and realistic approach to the uncertainties of public acceptance.

The plan is not to make a complete transition to electric, but to complement its portfolio with a model that will respect its heritage while meeting the expectations of the modern market. In this respect, Vigna recalls Ferrari's beginnings in 1947, when there were simply no roads. "The electric car is a challenge," he acknowledges, "but it's nothing compared to the one 78 years ago. If we want to be leaders, we have to dare."
