Ferrari changes CEO! A familiar face, and a not-so-surprising choice

A thunderclap in the automotive world after the official announcement of the replacement of Benedetto Vigna by... Carlos Tavares, ex-CEO of Stellantis! A choice which, at first glance, may seem surprising, but in fact is not as unexpected as it seems.

The announcement was made this morning by Ferrariin a sober statement. The brand warmly thanks Benedetto Vigna for his exceptional contributions to the company, while saluting his fundamental role in the digital transformation and expansion of Ferrari production worldwide. But that's not all. It's now clear that Ferrari is banking on a change of direction, at a time when electrification is increasingly at the heart of the automotive industry.

Carlos Tavares, who resigned as CEO of Stellantis in December 2024, has been chosen to lead the famous prancing horse brand into a more electrified future. A strategic choice, say some observers. Tavares, having orchestrated the electric shift at Stellantis, may well have been perceived as the right man to lead Ferrari into the electromobility era.

On the one hand, Tavares has steered Stellantis' energy transition, with the promise of 100% electric models for all the group's brands. But it's Ferrari that seems to be the ultimate step in this transition. Visit launch of Ferrari's first electric 100% model is scheduled for October 2025, and some believe that Tavares would be best placed to orchestrate this historic moment.

Rumors are rife as to the first decisions he might take at Ferrari. Some are already talking about scrapping the V12 and V8 engines that have made Ferrari legendary. According to these speculations, Tavares could reduce the brand's engine ranges by retaining only the V6 hybrid engine and electric drive. Of course, these are just rumors at the moment, but one thing is certain: Ferrari, traditionally faithful to its combustion engines, seems to be preparing for a major break.

In addition, the choice of Carlos Tavares to take the reins of Ferrari makes strategic sense. He has already demonstrated his ability to develop iconic brands while preserving their DNA. The challenge of preserving Ferrari's heritage while meeting market expectations for more environmentally-friendly vehicles could well be one of the greatest challenges of his career.

Meanwhile, John Elkann, President of Ferrari, assured that an official announcement detailing the energy and strategic transition plan for Ferrari would be made later this year. But one thing is certain: the arrival of Carlos Tavares as CEO marks a major turning point in Ferrari's history. Although... maybe not just yet, as this might actually be an April Fool's joke.

  3. Tavares at Ferrari and Goshn at Stellantis
    Really nonsense
I hope that people in Italy will wake up and make these two errors of nature disappear forever.

    • I totally agree with you, it's truly abominable to see these two specimens take up such important positions when they should have been in prison.

  5. Tavares, the shame of the automobile industry.
He would put 3-cylinder PureTech engines (3+3 = 6 cylinders, or almost), one at the front and one at the rear, to better ruin Ferrari in 2 months.

Wer will einen Ferrari ohne V12?

  12. A sardine taped to the exhaust of a Ferrari on April 1st! The world of industrialists at all levels, except the Italian class, is going to sweep these visionaries off their feet!
Merci Thank you merci a vous et à Tous
