Carlos and Charles try out the Ferrari F80: "it's close to an F1!"

The Ferrari F80unveiled on October 17 at Maranello, is already a legend in the world of hypercars. Powerful, futuristic and inspired by racing, it was recently put to the test by the pilots of F1 FerrariCharles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, on the private Fiorano circuit. Their verdict? A Formula 1-like experience, combining adrenalin and control. Here's how the F80 impressed these speed experts.

A power monster with competition genes

With its 1,200 horsepower, the Ferrari F80 is the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever produced. It combines a 900hp twin-turbo V6 with three electric motors, all orchestrated by technologies inherited from F1 and WEC. Innovations include MGU-H, which optimizes energy recovery, and an active aerodynamic system including DRS (Drag Reduction System).

For drivers, this architecture offers unique sensations. Carlos Sainz, visibly exhilarated after his laps of the track, summed it up: "The power is incredible. You can use long or short gears, it's still explosive. It's close to an F1 car - spectacular."

Perfect control on the track

Charles Leclerc, the first to take the wheel, was impressed by the F80's precision: "It's fast, really fast. But what I like most is its predictability. That's essential to enjoy such power." With a 1+1 configuration reminiscent of a single-seater, the F80 offers an immersive driving experience. The driver's central position, low weight (1525 kg) and racing-inspired aerodynamics reinforce this connection with the car.

The design, incorporating an "S-duct" concept and an active rear spoiler, guarantees perfect stability even at 350 km/h. Drivers also praised the steering wheel's direct response, enabling quick and precise adjustments in corners.

A Ferrari with F1 flair

The parallels between the F80 and Formula 1 are obvious. The twin-turbo V6 engine and hybrid solutions, inspired by F1's SF-24, deliver performance never before seen on a road car. With a 0 to 100 km/h time of 2.15 seconds and a 0 to 200 km/h time of 5.75 seconds, the F80 is on a par with records. The management of airflow under the body and the 1000 kg of downforce at 250 km/h are also reminiscent of modern F1 cars.

Carlos Sainz was quick to point out this legacy: "It's like an F1 car, but adapted for the road. The grip and stability at high speeds are impressive."

An exclusive model and a dream for enthusiasts

Limited to just 799 units, the F80 is aimed at an elite group of enthusiasts willing to pay 3.6 million euros for the ultimate Ferrari experience. This model follows in the footsteps of the F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari, while pushing back the boundaries of engineering.

For Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, this test day will go down in history. The two drivers' enthusiasm for a car capable of rivaling an F1 car in certain respects is the best advertisement for the F80. Once again, Ferrari proves its dominance in the world of hypercars, and this model promises to be a future classic.

The Ferrari F80, in the words of its drivers, is much more than a car: it's an experience. "Getting behind the wheel of the F80 is like being in a competition, but with the comfort of knowing you're on the road," Leclerc sums up.
