End of November 2024, Maserati confirms multi-year commitment to Formula EThis is a clear sign of the company's determination to strengthen its position in electrification and competition. This commitment will continue until the introduction of the GEN4 generation of single-seaters in 2026/2027 and beyond, until 2030, was announced by the Italian brand. However, a well-informed source told us that Maserati's adventure in Formula E could already be finished.

In its initial announcement, Maserati emphasized the importance of Formula E in accelerating the development of the all-electric Folgore range. The promises were ambitious, with more powerful single-seaters and 600 kW energy recovery technology. The integration of GEN3 EVO for season 11, with new drivers like Stoffel Vandoorne and Jake Hugheswas a clear sign of Maserati's commitment to establishing itself among the competition leaders.

At the time, under the impetus of Santo Ficili, Maserati's new CEO, the team was banking on a partnership with Stellantis Motorsport to develop increasingly high-performance powertrains. Formula E seemed the ideal place to test technologies before deploying them on production models.

But a few months later, the situation seems to have changed radically. A well-informed source recently revealed that one of the scenarios in play for Maserati was the complete cessation of the Formula E program. This choice is part of a reorientation of the brand's electrical strategy.

Under Carlos Tavares, Maserati was part of a highly ambitious electrification strategy, with a Folgore range and the 100 % electric supercar. However, these ambitions have come to an end, with the cancellation of the MC20 Folgore and the desire to give consumers a choice between electric and combustion-powered vehicles. It seems that Formula E, seen as a laboratory for tomorrow's technology, no longer has the same place in Maserati's current vision.

Nothing is lost, everything is transformed?

While Maserati's participation in Formula E could come to an end after season 11, the Stellantis Group may wish to continue investing in competition, but with other Group brands. Continue with DS and replace Maserati with Alfa Romeo or Abarth under study. Maserati, for its part, seems to be refocusing on a positioning of still exclusive luxury cars.
