When it comes to Formula 1collectors know that owning a real single-seater is an often unattainable dream. But what about a life-size replica? That's exactly what SBX Cars recently proposed: a 1:1 replica of the Ferrari SF16-H driven by Sebastian Vettel in 2016. And the least we can say is that this unique piece found a buyer... for $62,500!
An impressively realistic replica
Built in Europe, this model is a striking tribute to the Ferrari SF16. Made from carbon and fiberglass, it faithfully reproduces the visual elements of the original model: replica OZ Racing wheels, Pirelli P Zero slicks, front and rear multi-wings, fake air intake systems and even the detail of the FIA inspection sticker in the cockpit.

Inside, the attention to detail is just as impressive: black fixed seat with white contrast stitching, carbon F1 steering wheel with gearshift paddles, red Sabelt multipoint harness... everything is there to give the illusion of a real Grand Prix car.

Yes, but without an engine...
At this price, it's best to know what you're getting into: the replica has no engine, gearbox or functional suspension. It's impossible to start the car, let alone drive it. The only mechanical "functionality" is the ability to steer the wheels and move the car on its tires.
At 5.4 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and weighing 295 kg, this replica is destined to take pride of place in a showroom, a collector's garage or serve as the basis for an ultra-realistic driving simulator.
Bargain or folly?
62,500 for a static replica may seem an exaggeration, especially when you consider that for a few tens of thousands of euros more, it's sometimes possible to find genuine old-generation single-seaters, certainly without engines either, but which have actually taken part in races (for example, it's currently possible to buy a Williams FW 21 F1 without an engine for €75,000).
However, everything is relative. A genuine modern Ferrari F1 sold at auction often fetches several million euros. In this context, this replica of the SF16-H may seem an "affordable" compromise for a Formula 1 and Prancing Horse enthusiast. All the more so as its level of finish makes it almost a work of art to display.
If you dream of having a Ferrari F1 in your living room without emptying your bank account, this replica is probably a good deal. But for those looking to experience the thrill of driving, or hoping to own a genuine piece of motorsport history, it's likely to be a hard investment to justify.
