The Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV is one of the most eagerly awaited models of 2025, while the current generation, presented in 2016, will soon give way to an all-new version. The official presentation of the model is expected in the first half of 2025.and here's what we know about its features, engines and design.
A new platform

The future Stelvio will be built on the STLA Large platform, a base for high-end vehicles developed by Stellantis. This platform is already used for American models such as the Jeep Wagoneer S and the Dodge Charger Daytona, both 100 % electric models. However, the the Stelvio will be the first European model to benefit from this architecture. Unlike today's CMPs, STLA Large promises a wide variety of body styles and greater independence from neighboring models, such as the current Alfa Romeo Junior, which is closely related to the Peugeot 2008.
The SUV will be the first to benefit from the advances of the STLA Brain platform, Stellantis' new software and hardware system, which will integrate advanced functionalities such as multimedia, autonomous driving and many others.
Design: sportback on the agenda

The design of the future Stelvio should be inspired by that of the Junior, but without copying it. It is expected to retain a distinctive look while drawing inspiration from current trends, including sportback" styling, a trend in the SUV world. Inside, we should find a top-of-the-range presentation worthy ofAlfa Romeowith quality materials and meticulous finishes.
Engines: a wide choice
In terms of powertrains, the great novelty of the Stelvio will be the possibility of opting for a 100 % electric motor, although hybrid versions are also planned. Jean-Philippe Imparato, former CEO of Alfa Romeo, had promised a high-performance Quadrifoglio version, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of less than two seconds. For electric versions, look no further than the Dodge Charger Daytona, which offers power ratings from 496 hp to 630 hp with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. As for the Jeep Wagoneer S, it offers 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds. It is therefore reasonable to expect that the future electric Stelvio offers between 500 and 600 hp. The Stelvio's 800V electric motors are expected to come from the Stellantis Szentgotthard plant in Hungary, where production is due to start in 2026 (see our article dedicated to Stellantis Szentgotthard). Stellantis electric motors).

As far as the battery is concerned, the American models use a 100.5 kWh battery with NMA technology Samsung SDI brand, produced at the Kokomo plant in the USA, with the StarPlus Energy joint venture owned by Stellantis and Samsung. It can be assumed that the European Stelvio will be equipped with a battery produced by ACC, the joint venture between Stellantis, TotalEnergies and Mercedes, specializing in NMC batteries.

Contrary to expectations, the Stelvio should indeed offer PHEV. The hybrid engine for the Stelvio could be based on the 1.6L EP6 GEN3 engine, a plug-in hybrid version recently put into production at the Stellantis plant in Szentgotthard, Hungary . This engine, in its internal combustion version, offered up to 270 hp in the Peugeot RCZ. In current hybrid versions, such as the Peugeot 3008 and 408 PHEV, power ranges from 195 hp to 225 hp. It is therefore reasonable to expect hybrid versions of the Stelvio with similar or higher power ratings.
Made in Italy and top-of-the-range prices
The new Stelvio will be assembled at the Cassino plant in Italy. The price is expected to be higher than that of the current model. A combustion-hybrid version should start at around €60,000, while the electric version could reach €70,000. The price of the current Stelvio diesel starts at around €55,000, which gives an idea of the price differential to be expected for the new versions, especially the PHEV and electric 100 % models. By way of comparison, the Jeep Wagoneer S starts at 72,000 $ in the USA.
It may sound electric, but in the high-end SUV segment, a 170 hp BMW X2 starts at €47,000, a BMW X3 diesel at €64,000 and a BMW X3 PHEV at €72,000. For its price, the future Stelvio will probably not be the highest-volume model, but it will be an "image" vehicle. For more volume, you'll need a new Tonale, on the STLA Medium platform.
What scares me (a lot) is that the design was validated by Imparato. I hope he didn't interfere too much during the design stage...
Yes well especially under the terror regime of Carlos Tavares! 🙄😬
It smells like a rebadged 408! Developed under the reign of cynical "cost killer performance psychopath" Carlos Tavarès! Promising! 🙄🤔🤢
Stelvio will be on a wide STLA like the Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger.
No, it's not at all the same platform, nor the same engines (electric at least), nor the same dimensions. On the other hand, it smells like a 2.5-ton vehicle, and I'm very worried about the design and weight...
An electric Stelvio will never sell, but a combustion-powered Stelvio with a 1.6-liter engine and maximum power of between 195 and 270 hp from Pijot, I'm laughing in advance, a future flop on the horizon. Poor Alfa Romeo!
I agree with you, except for the maximum power: 360 horsepower on the DS9 and DS7.
Hoffe das Alfa wieder auf richtige Verbrenner kommt sonst war der Gulia Q4 der letzte Alfa.
Let's hope for the top-of-the-range Phev 360 combo ...... Impossible to win back bam customers with the 225.
Bei den Aussichten fahre ich lieber meinen 2019er Stelvio weiter! Sehr bedauerlich, dass Alfa auch auf den Elektrowahn abfährt!
Junior style... It's scary 😱 !
The thing was almost unanimously opposed...
Usually an Alfa Romeo gets unanimous approval...
This Tavares/Imparato period is truly a nightmare. But it's a nightmare that doesn't end when you wake up...
Wenn der neue Stelvio das Design vom Junior bekommt hat Alfa mich als Fan und Käufer verloren. Da kommen bei mir null Emotionen auf.
It's suicide not to offer a 100% diesel or petrol engine.
The advertised prices are sultry!
I'm waiting to see the new Stelvio and its various powertrains... and I'm already in the starting blocks to buy the current..... diesel even used. I already had the Sprint Q4 190hp version, a super car!!!! 182'000km and zero problems !!!
For my purposes, it was perfect!

Well said + it's insanely fun and comfortable to drive it.
I'm afraid I won't find the style of my Stelvio in the new one to come. The current one is superb, and I wish I could say the same for the new one. But I think ALFA ROMEO is going to lose its soul with the passing of TAVARES and his madness of making multiple cars with shoddy parts.
Will the weight distribution still be 50:50?
Will the steering ratio remain 12:1?
Will the car have an arse as of today?
Will the design and the lines still be simple but eye catching as of today?
If not, I'll switch to another brand, probably Genesis. I drove a Stelvio so far for those four points, nothing else: Beauty and handling. All else does not matter to me.
