New Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV: CEO confirms delay in market launch

A few weeks ago, we announced exclusively on ItalPassion that the presentation of the future Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV would take place this year, in 2025, with no commercial launch before 2026. The latest statements from the CEO ofAlfa Romeomade at the presentation of the Junior Q4 SUV, confirms exactly what we suspected: the second-generation Stelvio won't be launched until 2026.

On our site, we revealed that Alfa Romeo planned to present its future Stelvio as early as June 2025, while indicating that production date may not be before 2026. The main reasons cited were the supply of electric motors, produced in Hungary at the Szentgotthard plant, which will not be fully operational until early 2026.

The future Stelvio will be based on the STLA Large platform, the Stellantis group's most upmarket model. This architecture, already seen on the Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger, will enable the SUV to offer several types of powertrain, including a 100 % electric version. It's worth noting that Alfa Romeo's priorities are focused first and foremost on the electricfollowed closely by hybrids, as the CEO also confirmed.

In short, the future Stelvio will be unveiled to the general public in a few months' time, but its real arrival on the road won't be until 2026. In the meantime, the brand relies heavily on the Junior, soon to celebrate 1 year on the marketand the Tonale, which should be updated in mid-2025.

  1. Do we know more about the batteries? In 2021, an EV Day visual evoked a "cell-to-pack" architecture which, in the absence of "solid" batteries, seems to me to be an essential step towards keeping up with the competition in terms of capacity, weight and recharging time. I hope the project isn't cancelled or delayed, because it's been mentioned recently by Alpine/Renault and of course Mercedes/BMW, not to mention the Chinese, who are already marketing these batteries.
