The first quarter of 2025 is positive for Alfa Romeo. After two years of stagnation, the Italian brand is on the rise in several markets, with particularly impressive performances in Italy and France. While some countries are still struggling to keep up with the trend, overall progress is undeniable.

Strong growth in Italy
In Italy, the brand's birthplace, Alfa Romeo recorded a 30% increase in registrations in the first quarter of 2025, a very positive result after two years of stagnation. This upturn in form is certainly an encouraging sign for the brand which, after a difficult period, seems to be back on the growth track, with a total of 8,500 registrations.
France, the brand's new driving force
In France, Alfa Romeo managed to surprise with a 74% increase in registrations compared to 2024, and even a 125% increase compared to 2023. In March, the brand achieved almost 800 registrations. This strong momentum means that France is now Alfa Romeo's second best-performing market, ahead of countries such as Germany and the United States.
A worrying decline in the United States
Despite notable performances in certain countries, the United States remains a difficult market for Alfa Romeo. It used to be the brand's second-largest market, a decline of -15 % compared with the first quarter 2024, in particular due to dependence on the Giulia and Stelvio models, whose appeal no longer fully meets demand. The Tonale, despite a price reduction and a new engineis not enough to compensate. In addition, Trump's tax on automobile imports could play a role in the brand's future sales.
Spain and Japan: contrasting performances
Spain, although marked by a decline of -6 % compared to 2024, had a very good March, with nearly 600 registrations. However, it is still too early to judge whether this trend will continue for the year as a whole.
Japan, meanwhile, suffered a significant decline of -26%. This drop is largely due to the absence of the new Junior model, which should nevertheless be on sale in this country in a few months' time, offering a glimmer of hope for the brand in this crisis-hit market.
Junior, the driving force behind Alfa Romeo's progress
But what's really driving Alfa Romeo's progress? The Junior, without a doubt. It now accounts for a large proportion of the brand's sales, particularly in France, Italy and Spain, where it has been particularly well received. This model, which has been the subject of numerous articles on our site, now seems to be meeting needs by attracting a new clientele. A more detailed article on the Junior and its impact on registrations will be published shortly on Italpassion.
I hope the engine lasts, although I regret this sad choice for a brand that was so much better.
