Alfa Romeo Junior: ever more orders! But why?

The Junior, the B-SUV fromAlfa Romeoseems at last to be meeting with the success we had hoped for. But what's behind this acceleration in orders? When it is launched in April 2024, the Junior got off to a slow start. Indeed, until October 2024, Alfa Romeo failed to exceed 10,000 units sold, well below expectations for a model that was supposed to reinvigorate the brand in the B-SUV market.

However, everything changed in November 2024. From then on, sales soared, reaching the target of 20,000 units in January 2025, and topping 22,000 units in early February. The acceleration in sales doesn't seem to be a mere coincidence. During our test drive of the Junior Q4, Alfa Romeo has confirmed that it will have exceeded 30,000 orders by March 19, 2025, a figure even higher than the one announced a few days earlier, 27,000 orders. Figures not to be confused with registrations!

Alfa Romeo Junior controls

Cristiano Fiorio, Head of Alfa Romeo Global Marketing and Communication, confirmed that this acceleration was indeed the result of intensified communication around the model, particularly after its highlight at the Paris Motor Show. From then on, the Junior took pride of place in dealer showrooms, making the model more accessible and visible.

The Junior Q4: a model that should boost sales even further

Another milestone for Alfa Romeo: the arrival of the Q4 model. This model, which enhances the range with its 136 hp hybrid, 156 hp electric and 280 hp top-of-the-range electric versions, should meet the expectations of new consumers attracted by four-wheel drive cars.

Japan and Mexico on the program

Junior will not be restricted to Europe. It is also about to be launched in two new markets: Japan and Mexico. Although rumours are circulating that it will be marketed in the USA and Canada, Alfa Romeo has no plans to roll out the Junior in these regions for the time being.

Japan, which is not yet keen on electric models, could be attracted by the hybrid version, and Mexico is a fast-growing market for SUVs.

What's the goal for Junior?

As a reminder, the former CEO of Alfa Romeo, Jean-Philippe Imparato, declared about a year ago "Junior will have to make sales and bring in profits. He must also bring enthusiasm. There are no precise sales targets [...] the potential is there, and we can sell more. 50 à 70 000. Our strategy is purely order-driven, and the Tychy plant is highly flexible and capable of adapting to even greater demand.

The goal of reaching an average of 5,000 orders per month now seems within reach. That's all well and good for the Alfa Romeo brand, which must also concentrate on other models, such as updating the Tonaleand the launches of the new Stelvio and Giulia.

  1. Let's hope this Junior doesn't carry the poisoned fruit of a future PureTech scandal... we can easily imagine the carnage that would be...

  2. The Fiat group has always cheated by having their rental subsidiaries buy their cars to boost sales, and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case with their junior subsidiary. I haven't seen a single junior on the road yet, and Lyon is no small town!

    • I saw with my own eyes the immats of the junior, which are 90 % for private customers. I went to my alfa romeo dealer yesterday, who confirmed with complete transparency (I've known him for over 10 years) that he has a lot of orders for juniors and that he has started delivering them.

      • I only saw one in Turin in the Stellantis FCA Heritage parking lot at the end of December. Not a single one in France or Belgium. I'm in Lille and I move around a lot.

    • In France, Alfa has never sold well...
On the other hand, I've been seeing them on the road every day for the past few weeks (I live in Switzerland).
After that, I'm not going to buy one. A S.U.V with a purtech, auto gearbox and made in Poland is a no-go for me as an "Alfiste".

  4. Im NOT an EV fan, but its good news for Alfa Romeo. BTW you happens when you ADVERTISE, Yea, miracles happen.

  5. Nice little suv BUT stellantis group 3-cylinder engine very well known for its defects, even if they sell us the new 136 hp I don't have confidence in this powertrain, maybe in 5 years when it has proven itself?

  7. I was going to buy an alfa junior hybrida! But in view of the comments I am hesitant !!! After my purchase is only for the end of the year! I'm waiting to see if any buyers have engine problems or anything !!!! But I really like the model !!!!
