Alfa Romeo Junior: here's how it "sings" with a Ragazzon exhaust system (not so good)

Advertising

L'Alfa Romeo Juniorthe new small SUV from the Italian brand, is all about style, with a new design ofAlfa RomeoOn the engine side, performance remains modest. Under the hood, a 1.2L 3-cylinder block is offered in 136 hp versions for the front-wheel drive hybrid models, and 145 hp for the Q4 version with all-wheel drive. While performance remains respectable for urban and suburban use, the sound of the engine is clearly unspectacular. A 3-cylinder is still a 3-cylinder.

As usual, the Italian brand Ragazzon, well known to enthusiasts for its adaptable sport exhausts, has released a system dedicated to the Alfa Romeo Junior. The aim? To add a little character to the original sound.

The first good thing about this configuration is its looks. Thanks to the duplex rear muffler, the Junior gains a double exhaust tailpipe that finally gives the rear end a real sporty look. It's clean, well integrated and much more visually flattering than the original single tailpipe.

But now to the crux of the matter: sound. Ragazzon has released an official video demonstration of the Junior's new "song". And let's be frank: it's not great. Yes, it's a little raspier, yes there's a slight growl under acceleration, but it's very restrained, almost timid. The 1.2L 3-cylinder engine doesn't work miracles, and Ragazzon probably did the best he could with what he had.

If you were hoping for a radical transformation like the Abarth or Alfa Romeo of yesteryear, you're in for a disappointment. The real attraction of this exhaust is its looks, and perhaps a slight acoustic upgrade for those who want a little extra without going overboard.

So, should it be installed? If you want to dress up your Junior with a bit more sportiness at the rear, that's a yes. When it comes to sound, however, keep your expectations in check.

  1. The wonderful world of marketers, bluster and false promises!
Be serious and retain some dignity. This is Alfa!!! ;-))

Note: Renault's Rafale SUV, powered by their basic 3-cylinder engine, is not bad either!

  2. Of course, with a vulgar 1.2-liter Pure Tech, there's no need to work miracles, but if it had had an Italian engine, it might have done the trick.

    • So much for the image.
But why have you accepted this ubiquitous project, if only for the sake of a certain "aestheticism"? It's literally counter-productive!
At this point, a stainless steel outlet on the VELOCE... electric!? 😅

      • If there was an artificial sound, why not?
But for the Junior Alfa Romeo hasn't provided it, as on the Abarth 600e and 500e.

  4. It's good for looks. As for the sound, it's a 3-cylinder, so we shouldn't have expected any miracles.
I fitted a complete Ragazzon line to my Giulia 2.0 Q4 280 hp. While the sound is not bad when starting from cold, when driving I would have liked it to be louder.
There's no Akrapovic for this model of Giulia, but I think the sound of the Akrapovic exhausts is clearly superior. On the Abarth 695 biposto I had a few years ago, it was a real concert.
