While the good results of the new Alfa Romeo Junior SUV, produced at Tychy in Poland, have been making headlines in recent weeks, the situation is quite different for Alfa Romeo products in Italy. The unions have just drawn up an initial assessment of production in the first quarter of 2025, and the figures are worrying.
Cassino: production at an all-time low
In Cassino, where the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio and Maserati Grecale are assembled, production falls drastically. In the first three months of 2025, only 4,655 vehicles were produced here. This represents a drop of 45.5 % compared with the same period in 2024.
This historically low level had never been reached in the plant's history. Estimated breakdown of current production at Cassino :
- Alfa Romeo Giulia: 26 %, approximately 1,210 units
- Alfa Romeo Stelvio: 53 %, approximately 2,460 units
- Maserati Grecale: 20 % or approx. 930 units
Pomigliano: Tonale backs down too

In Pomigliano d'Arco, where the Alfa Romeo Tonale (and its Dodge Hornet cousin) are produced, the situation is hardly any better. The local union reports a decline of 30 %, with 5,016 units produced in the first quarter of 2025. This is a far cry from the 16,400 units for the first quarter of 2023.
Less than 9,000 Alfa Romeos produced in Italy in 3 months
Combining data from Cassino and Pomigliano, only 8,686 Alfa Romeos were produced in Italy in the first quarter of 2025. If this trend continues, it can be estimated that just 35,000 vehicles could be assembled in Italian plants by the end of the year. A particularly low figure for a brand of this calibre. The figure could be even lower, given that Giulia and Stelvio enter their final year on the market and are now only available as diesel on order (at least in Europe).
Against this gloomy backdropJunior's launch comes at just the right time. Produced outside Italy, this new model already seems to be enjoying good orders. It could well save Alfa Romeo's global volumes in 2025.
The unions have no more information than we do about the immediate future. They do, however, confirm that production of the new Stelvio should start in the early months of 2026, as we announced several months ago.
As for Tonale, restyling scheduled for mid-2025A new project, which could give it a new lease of life, has yet to be announced, but it's probably just a matter of a few months.
2023 | 2024 | Q1 2025 | Projection 2025 | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cassino (Giulia/Stelvio) | 31 558 | 19 600 | 3 670 | 14 000 |
Pomigliano (Tonale) | 82 300 | 36 980 | 5 016 | 20 000 |
113 858 | 56 580 | 8 686 | 34 000 |
Stellantis is going to hire an American firm to find out how to sell Alfa , this group is really down to earth .
I strongly believe that this Stellantis which is obvious that they have NO IDEA how the car market works to me these guys bought these brands made as much money as they could to line their pockets never upgrade with new models ect, ect. and then ditch it.
Are you serious? I guess you don't really know what you are talking about.
The drop in sales is annoying. These are end-of-life models for the Giulia and Stelvio, and yet they're still the best in their class.
In France, they have become almost unmarketable with the high malus rates.
The Tonale is disappointing.
Alfa scuttled these 2 models from the outset, refusing to offer hybridization and the station wagon for the Giulia and hybridization altogether for the Stelvio! There's no overall vision from these people, which is a shame, because these were great cars from the start!
