Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio: the end is nigh!

Advertising

After debuts in 2015 for the Giulia and 2016 for the Stelvio, Alfa Romeo's two iconic models will soon reach the end of their careers. These exceptional cars, appreciated for their design and performance, give way to a new Stelvio scheduled for 2025 and a Giulia in 2026. But what does "the end" really mean for these much-loved models? We explain.

The end of sales of the Giulia and Stelvio thermal models is imminent. Alfa Romeo recently informed its dealers and owners that orders for the petrol-engined versions of these two models (Quadrifoglio and Veloce) will be closed shortly. The timetable for this transition has been clearly established:

Advertising
  • Giulia Quadrifoglio: orders close on March 31, 2025
  • Stelvio Quadrifoglio: orders close on April 30, 2025
  • Giulia and Stelvio 280 hp (Sprint/Veloce/Intensa): orders close on May 31, 2025

These dates mark the end of the internal combustion engine era for these two models, with only the 2.2L diesel engine remaining as an option for some time to come. The end of the combustion engine era for the Giulia and Stelvio won't be an immediate break, but it does make way for a new generation that promises to see some major changes.

For fans of both models, it's an emotional moment. Personally, having owned a Giulia, it remains my number 1 car in my heart. It's hard to say goodbye to a car that has embodied the passion, performance and elegance of the Alfa Romeo brand. But after a 10-year career, the transition to future models is inevitable.

The future Stelvio, which will be presented in a few months' time, will be based on the STLA Large platform and will offer an electric 100 % version. This evolution will be accompanied, in a second phase, by a thermal hybrid version.

So it's time to say goodbye to these two exceptional models, and the anticipation for their successors promises to be exciting. It remains to be seen what these new models will have in store for us, and whether they will rise to the challenge of succeeding these icons of the road.

    Personally, I'd say it's more "nerve-wracking".

  4. Sadness!!! I have a GIULIA and I keep it, incredible not to continue a car like her and the current STELVIO.
Having 40 years of esparto this year, I'm very disappointed.
My time is over, I'm going to try and find a replacement for my GIULIA, why not a 510hp?
Europe destroys everything (walking or cycling, carpooling, public transport...)
    Job losses to boot.

  7. Helas ! I've been a motoring enthusiast for over 50 years and now the joy of driving cars with their inimitable noise and extraordinary atmosphere is going to disappear, all in the name of ecology ... it saddens me ... fortunately there will still be classic cars to remind us what the Dolce Vita was all about ...

  10. Sad news, but it's bound to happen. Let's hope that Stellantis at least puts a 2L in its Phev version, otherwise, bye bye Alfa Romeo for good. It's certain that the electric version will be a monumental flop, but no, Stellantis continues to believe in it, applying the same strategy to all its brands. Thank you France, thank you Europe, for killing legendary brands like this one. The only hope is that the QV version will be in the same spirit as BMW's M5, a 2.9 V6 with a "little" rechargeable hybridization just to get under the Co2 and weight malus.
Anyway, as they say, "hope springs eternal"...

    • European standards or not, what difference would it have made? The merger with PSA and the current management team would have resulted in more or less the same thing: the quest for the highest margins to the detriment of everything else. There would still be PSA engines under the hoods, the same PSA platforms imposed everywhere... At best, we'd be getting the 1.6L PureToc instead of the 1.2L...

  11. Just got the Giulia last not knowing the situation. Now I feel lucky to lease the Giulia. I love the Italian design plus the way people are reacting makes me feel good. In last 7 days at least 20 people asked me about the Giulia.
    I am loving it.
