Is the Abarth 500e already obsolete in the face of the new Stellantis?

The Abarth 500e, launched in 2023, represents the sporty version of the Fiat 500e. With 155 hp, 235 Nm of torque, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds, this little sports car, weighing in at 1,335 kg, has won over a number of enthusiasts. Priced from €36,900, it was a pioneer in the Stellantis Group's electric sports car range. But today, this emblematic model could well quickly become obsolete in the face of new products from the same group.

Promising new products from Stellantis

The Stellantis group is constantly announcing new, increasingly high-performance models. These include Alfa Romeo Junior stands out with 280 hp. This BSUV, expected for the end of 2024, should be marketed, according to our information, at around €48,000. With almost double the power of the Abarth 500e, the Alfa Romeo Junior promises first-rate performance.

The Lancia Ypsilon HF, a compact also with 280 hpwill be available next year for between €40,000 and €45,000. This model is already shaping up to be a formidable new competitor.

Finally, the Abarth 600e, the SUV version of the Abarth 500e, is expected to deliver 240 hp with the possibility of upgrading to 280 hp. Although the price has not yet been announced, it could be between €40,000 and €45,000, and will also strengthen the Group's sporty offering.

Performance comparison

Compared to the new models, the Abarth 500e seems a step back. The newcomers accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds, compared with 7 seconds for the Abarth 500e, when the battery is at over 90 %. What's more, the WLTP range of the new Stellantis cars is around 400 km, while the Abarth 500e offers just 265 km.

The competition is not to be outdone. The Alpine A290, with 220 hp, 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and a range of 380 km, is also an interesting alternative at around €38,000. The Mini Cooper SE has also evolved for 2024, going from 184 to 218 hp, and a range that increases from 305 to 402 km.

A future evolution of the Abarth 500e?

It's important to note that the Abarth 500e was a precursor, announced as early as 2020 for launch in 2023. Stellantis is also planning to invest 100 million euros for improve the power and range of the Fiat 500e and probably also the Abarth 500e. However, this evolution is not expected before the end of 2025, at best. In the meantime, the Abarth 500e remains an endearing car, but one whose choice may prove less pragmatic in the face of more powerful and longer-lasting models.

  1. The Abarth 500e is much smaller than its Stellantis competitors, and much cuter. All it needs is more power and better range.
I'd almost like to buy it with these 2 elements (power and autonomy).
It won't be obsolete if it evolves.

  2. It would also be necessary to have the choice of color because quite frankly the colors are ugly.
