For several days, a rumor has been setting the specialized media ablaze, announcing the arrival of a Abarth of the Fiat Topolino. According to this information, Olivier François, Fiat's CEO, gave an interview to Motortrend in which he reportedly hinted at a sporty version of the famous city car, with a more muscular body kit. The idea of seeing this little Italian car in an Abarth version did not fail to attract the attention of enthusiasts, all the more so as it was announced as an aesthetic rather than a mechanical evolution, with power remaining unchanged. But is this rumour true?

After seeing this ad circulating on several platforms, our team embarked on a meticulous search for this famous interview supposedly to have appeared in Motortrend. We went through the magazine's archives in detail, but to no avail. Intrigued by the persistence of this information, we contacted Fiat directly. Their response? Nothing official. After a second attempt, confirmation came through: to their knowledge, this interview never took place. Fiat declined to comment on the possibility of a Topolino Abarth. In other words, this rumor has no basis in reality.

But the story doesn't end there. The image accompanying this viral announcement also caught our attention. Several media outlets relayed an illustration showing the Fiat Topolino embellished with an Abarth body kit. We recognized the image: it was our own creation, made for an April fool's day in 2024. So it seems that our joke was taken seriously by many journalists, who spread it as real information.

So, can we really speak of a Abarth Topolino ? The answer is clear: this is fake news. This rumor gained momentum because some media didn't bother to check their sources before publishing.
